Italy, France and Spain are the leading countries worldwide in wine production. Climate, terrain, and soil quality in which the wine grapes are grown are the main factors that influence on how the wine turns out.

Most of the world’s wine is grown in the Mediterranean region, or in places with a Mediterranean climate.

Italy is the leading producer of wine and had the highest export volume at a number close to 21 million hectoliters. Spain and France also exported 20 and 14 million hectoliters each. The top wine markets are in Europe are Portugal, Italy, and France which have the highest per capita consumption. The largest aggregate wine markets are the USA, China, and France, because of their populations.
